Deepika says Saif is Brilliant!

Deepika Padukone has certainly made a name for herself in Bollywood after her debut in Om Shanti Om. She is now one of the most sought after actresses working today and one of her new films is Love Aaj Kal, directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-starring Saif Ali Khan. The film is the first production for Saif’s home banner.

Deepika said about working with director Imitaz Ali of Jab We Met fame, “Imtiaz Ali was always on my wish-list of directors to work with and I am glad I am working with him so soon in my career.”

She had nothing but praise for her co-star Saif Ali Khan and said, “It was fantastic working with Saif. He is brilliant yet he needs to be taken care of like a child.”

With every success, sadly there are also some failures and recently the highly anticipated film Chandni Chowk to China starring Deepika and Akshay Kumar sank at the box office, “I would still count it as a great experience. If you work hard on a film or anything and then it doesn’t do well, you are obviously disappointed but it was a great experience for me. I learnt a lot from it. It’s an experience that pushes me to better myself and my performances.”

One of the great experiences she says on CC2C was all the stunt work she got to do in the film, “I come from a very athletic background. And I wanted to do action scenes. To be doing somersaults and flips for all those guys who supervised the stunts for Uma Thurman in Kill Bill … was a big treat.”

Deepika will also be seen in Billu Barber now just Billu, with Shah Rukh Khan in a special appearance in the song Love Mera Hit Hit, “I shot for three days for Billu Barber shooting the song Love Mera Hit Hit. It actually brought back memories of Om Shanti Om for me. In fact even the caterer, Muthuswamy was the same. Farah and SRK are like family to me and I would do anything for them.”

Getting back to Love Aaj Kal, Deepika feels audiences, especially the younger crowd will really relate to it , “It’s a very contemporary take on relationships, the way couples feel in this day age. It’s a very unusual film. Very real. It will connect with contemporary couples. I sure did connect with it.”

Jiah Khan Raves About Shahid

Fresh from the triumph of Aamir Khan’s 200-crores Ghajini, British actress Jiah Khan is now working hard on Yahoo with Shahid Kapur and – no mean dancer herself – has been raving about his dancing. In the movie, Shahid is seen practicing a form of urban dance called krumping. Justin Timberlake’s choreographer, Marty Kudelka, had been roped in to teach him the steps. “I remember the first day of rehearsals with Justin’s choreographer Marty,” says Shahid, “Suddenly I started getting sweaty hands and became nervous. I was feeling that it’s very nice to see the videos of people and say that we too can dance like them. But when you actually get down to doing it, it does make you feel a little nervous.”

Jiah is a committed member of PETA and has been campaigning against the use of glass-coated manja used in the strings of traditional kites in India. When the manja falls on trees and poles, birds get tangled up in it and it is said that thousands suffer from cut wings every year. The campaign coincides with the festival of Makar Sankranthi when kite-flyers fill the streets. “Glass-coated manja is a public health hazard and causes excruciating death for birds who get tangled up in it”, explains Jiah, “We’re asking participants in the Makar Sankranthi contests and all kite-flying competitors to immediately stop using glass-coated manja and to conduct their sport in a way that isn’t deadly to humans and wildlife.”

Aamir Khan Goes Back to School

Aamir Khan visited the prestigious IIM-A business school and lectured around 80 post-graduate students on the corporatisation of Bollywood. He spoke for over ninety minutes amidst tight security on campus. “Aamir spoke about the general mechanism of how Bollywood works,” said Anita Kishor, a student, “The first part of the 90 minute session was his lecture, followed by a question-answer session.”

Aamir has the ability to present even the most difficult and remote subjects in a thought-provoking yet entertaining way as his long list of remarkable hits attests. Currently, he is promoting the making of a film about the plight facing the farmers of Bhopal. Raghubir Yadav will star in the film. The film will be directed by Anusha Rizvi. “The plot of the movie deals with a reporter’s journey to fight for the plight of farmers in the region. It deals with the issues of farmers’ suicide,” says a source.

After the huge success of Ghajini, Aamir has decided to take a year off from acting following his current movie 3 Idiots. He wants to spend more time with his family. “It is true that Aamir is finally taking a year off after Raj Kumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots is complete,” says a source, “He is currently in Bangalore shooting for the film. Actually, he was planning to take a sabbatical last year after Taare Zameen Par, where the double responsibility of directing and acting sapped him. But then he was coaxed into doing Ghajini and then began his physical reorientation, the muscle-building and body-toning that really exhausted the method actor.”

Who said that break-ups have to be ugly? Shahid Kapoor certainly begs to differ. The actor who had a much publicised relationship with superstar Kareena Kapoor has been pretty quiet since the break-up and at last voices some opinion about it. When asked if the producer signed him opposite Kareena in a romantic role, would he do it? He very professionally replied that as an actor he would do whatever is required of him setting aside any personal issues that may exist.

Ranbir isn’t playing Akki- Ash’s son.

So much so that he had no time to read Vipul Shah’s script which he’s penning with his favourite Akshay Kumar in mind.

Sources say that Vipul Shah who wanted to make a fantasy film this time zeroed in on the Hollywood hit ‘Action Replay’.

Michael J. Fox played the lead in the original version. The film centers on Marty McFly, a teenager who is unexpectedly sent back and forth in time of present-past-future and meets his parents at his high-school days. He’s sent back in time from 1985 to 1955 and also accidentally attracts his mother’s romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his parents to fall in love, while finding a way to return to 1985.

Akshay Kumar dons the lead role while Aishwarya Rai is the female lead opposite him.

Vipul Shah wanted Ranbir in the very important role of Akki-Ash’s son. But since Ranbir is so busy with his three projects and another one with Mani Rathnam, he had to turn him down.

If all goes well for the film, this indeed will be a big opportunity lost by Ranbir.

Lara leaves SRK’s party, Dino follows her

There was a time when Lara Dutta and Dino Morea used to see each other. The old lovers again happened to cross one another’s road at Shahrukh Khan’s bash. Shahrukh and Gauri had thrown a party at Mannat, last week. Present on the occasion was Dino Morea and his ex beau Lara Dutta. When Lara saw Dino getting closer to designer Nandita Mahtani, she left the party and Dino followed her.

A source present at the event reveals, “Lara, Dino, Preity, Ness, and Nandita were all seen having a conversation. Later, Preity and Ness started mingling with other guests and the trio was left to themselves. Dino and Nandita were in the chatty mode, and were seen joking and laughing. It was obvious that Lara wasn’t too comfortable with her beau’s ex around.”

Apparently at one point, Lara saw Nandita sitting on Dino’s lap and she lost her patience and left the party. On seeing her leave, Morea too excused himself and followed her. A source close to the couple admits, “Yes, they had a tiff over Nandy but they talked and things are fine now.”

Akshay Tempted by CC2C Poster

Rohan Sippy was so determined to sign up Akshay Kumar for Chandni Chowk to China that he had a poster specially designed showing him in the role. It tempted him and he signed up. “I don’t think we could have envisioned any other actor in the role of Sidhu,” says Rohan, “Akshay has breathed life into this role. People will feel sympathy when he is a fumbling Sidhu and will cheer when he beats up the bad guys.” The poster is essentially the same one being used now to promote the movie.

Sajid Nadiadwala has signed Akshay’s co-star in CC2C Deepika Padukone to star opposite him again in his new movie Housefull. Is this the start of a new jodi we ask ourselves? “The film is a comedy flick and this is the first time I will be doing something very different,” explains Deepika, “I don’t know how I will manage. I will try my best.”

Akki’s Kambakht Ishq, which stars Kareena Kapoor and features Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards, is now scheduled to be released on May 29th. There’s a lot riding on its success as producer Sajid confirms, “We’ve worked really hard to give the film an international look and feel. The film has gone way above budget. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make such an expensive film again.”

Akshay Kumar turns chef for wife…

Akshay Kumar is undoubtedly the current superstar of Bollywood. He rules the cinema being the highly paid and much adored actor.

The man perfectly knows how to make better half happy. He bought a lavish car of Rs. 3 crores to gift Twinkle Khanna on her 35^th birthday. When he presented the car, the gorgeous wife got surprised.

Akki had to leave for Hong Kong for a show, so before departing he handed over the keys to Twinkle. While collecting the keys and then riding on the car, the wife got overjoyed.

In order to make the birthday more special and memorable, he went to Goa with the family and there he cooked the delicious Gujrati food for his better half. Dimplae Kapadia and Akshay’s mother also accompanied them.

Hmmm… a good hubby Akshay is, as he knows how to handle and keep the wife happy…!
